In this article, we’ll tell you how to stream with Nintendo Switch and broadcast gameplay. We’ve all been tempted to live stream a video game at some point. From the comfort of our homes, streaming a game playing the latest release, overcoming the most difficult achievements, competing against other players, or discovering a new side to exploit, is a real possibility that is within our reach.
Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have the necessary tools to stream directly from the console, but to do it with Switch we will have to find an alternative in the absence of applications for it. And since we don’t want the world to miss out on your talent, we’re going to explain how to do live streaming with Nintendo Switch, how to connect the broadcast to Twitch, and what you need to do it.
What do I need to stream with Nintendo Switch?
Before we get down to business, the first thing we’ll do is go over everything we need to stream a Nintendo Switch game whatever platform you choose:
- A Nintendo Switch with its respective dock: a step as obvious as essential, Captain Obvious.
- A monitor or TV and an HDMI cable. The same one we use to connect the dock to the TV screen.
- A computer. We will need a computer with Windows or macOS, either laptop or desktop. The better its performance, the better quality we will be able to get from our streaming.
- A video capture device. Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch does not have its own application that allows us to broadcast the game, so we will have to resort to the only possible method: record our game on the Switch with a video capture for the computer.
- A third-party software with which to send the broadcast. A simple Google search will reveal a good handful of them, but you can start with the popular and free OBS Studio or XSplit.
- Internet connection. And the faster the connection, the better. If we want to broadcast online and live it is mandatory.
How to stream with Nintendo Switch on Twitch?
Once we have all the necessary elements, to stream on Twitch we will have to perform a series of steps to be able to send the game of our Nintendo Switch through the computer. You can follow them with images in the gallery below:
- Place the Nintendo Switch in the dock. We will need to use the HDMI port, so the console must be connected to the dock.
- Connect the Nintendo Switch to the video capture device. We will have to use the HDMI cable with which we connect the dock to the TV and insert it into the input port (the one marked “IN”) of the video capture device. Don’t worry, we will be able to continue watching our game through the TV by connecting the OUT port of the video capture device to the screen of our choice.
- Connecting the video capture unit to the computer. We will use the corresponding USB cable to connect the capturer to one of the ports of our computer. The image and sound of the game will be transmitted through the cable to the computer, from where we will send the signal to Twitch.
- Install OBS Studio or other video streaming software and start streaming. We will have to send the signal from the capture device to the software, connect our previously registered Twitch account and start streaming.
That’s it! Now you can play with the software’s configuration options to add an overlay, a frame, and the signal from a video camera or, more importantly, the signal from your microphone so they can listen to you commenting on the live play. The creativity is up to you – good luck!
