Tag Heuer has teamed up with Nintendo to launch one of the smartwatches that fans of video games and the Japanese brand will like the most: the Tag Heuer Connected x Super Mario Limited Edition. Thus, the company launches an exclusive edition of its watch that was already in some countries but focusing it on a new audience.
With this agreement, the iconic Super Mario conquers the elegant Tag Heuer watch, and its seal is felt on the dials, crown, bezel, and even on the buckle. Places where they have either the initial of Mario or iconic elements of the Mushroom Kingdom as the mushroom or the star.
The company explains that the centerpiece of this alliance is to achieve “a unique combination of the refinement and elegance of a chronograph-inspired timepiece made in the purest watchmaking tradition, with a state-of-the-art, custom-designed, performance-oriented digital experience.”
Super Mario dials
Super Mario is omnipresent on Tag Heuer’s new watch. The idea is that the Nintendo character accompanies the wearer throughout the day and, in addition, invites him to move and engage in physical activity. To do this, Mario is always in motion as if it were a video game.
Although Mario moves, the sphere reacts and becomes more lively and animated as the user also increases his activity, so that the Connected changes to the rhythm of the user’s progress, in a fun and motivating way with the idea of always closing the day with physical activity. This dial is for the moment exclusive to this watch, although the company has explained that it will eventually reach other Tag Heuer editions later.
The animations are based on the incentive system of video games: Mario welcomes the user in the morning and, as the day progresses and steps are accumulated in the account, the user unlocks rewards at each stage of the goal of the day (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%), being able to see each time on the dial a different animation. The animations reflect famous Super Mario objects: at 3 o’clock, the Super Mushroom that makes Mario grow; at 6 o’clock, the pipe that allows him to travel fast; at 9 o’clock, the superstar that makes him invincible lights up! And when 100% of the daily step goal is reached, Mario climbs up the flagpole, another iconic action of the video game.
Beyond the sphere in which Mario moves, there are also others where the seal of the Nintendo character is clear either by the colors or because he appears, although more subtly and discreetly.
Multiple details
Beyond the digital aspect, the watch is designed with exclusive and subtle references for Super Mario fans. Its seal is found in the graduation of the bezel, the pushers, the crown, or the buckle of the strap, where the logos of the video game give a unique touch to most fans of the franchise.
As a curiosity, the bezel shows three unmistakable symbols at the three, six, and nine o’clock positions, which are related to the Super Mario objects that appear in the animations of the dial and that the user can unlock or discover only if he achieves his goals throughout the day.
