Along with the rest of the operating systems, Apple today unveiled tvOS 15 in its WWDC21 keynote. The company has hardly dedicated an exclusive space to it, but we will be able to see the new features of the other systems reflected on our televisions.
tvOS 15 features
These new features are SharePlay, with which we can watch content at the same time with other people while we are in a videoconference; or the new section ‘Shared with you from which we can access any content that has been sent to us and that can be viewed from tvOS. In addition, the system itself will generate recommendations of content to watch among the whole family respecting all ages.
We also have some new details, such as the possibility of configuring two HomePod minis as audio output from our TV, support for uncompressed audio (although it will arrive later), and spatial audio support in the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.
Finally, we will be able to tell Siri directly to play specific content without navigating through the system menus. For example, we could say “Hey Siri, play the latest episode of ‘See'”.
Compatibility and release date of tvOS 15
tvOS 15 will be compatible with Apple TV HD and both generations of Apple TV 4K and will be completely free. Beta 1 should be available now to the developer community, with the final version expected to be released to everyone sometime in September.
