Interpublic Group’s Weber Shandwick appointed Tom Beckman as its first global chief creative officer, elevating the discipline to the agency’s C-suite. With the promotion of Tom Beckman, the agency continues to expand beyond its public relations roots.
Beckman was previously global head of creative. The agency also appointed Robyn Adelson as chief strategy officer for North America.

The moves are part of Weber Shandwick’s ongoing effort to expand beyond its PR and communications roots, a push that includes strengthening its creative leadership across North and South America with additional promotions. They follow the appointment of Ciro Sarmiento in February as a chief creative officer for New York from the multicultural agency Dieste.
Under Beckman’s watch, the agency has created innovative campaigns for Ancestry, Airbnb, Bud Light, and Mattel. The shop won 25 Cannes Lions in 2019, and Ad Age named it the only PR group on the 2020 Agency A-List.
Beckman will continue to grow the agency’s creative teams and will lead its Global Creative Council, a group of the organization’s leaders. Adelson has been working in both creative and strategy in Canada, producing campaigns for clients McDonald’s, Mondelez, and Sport Chek. His scope has now expanded to cover strategy for all of North America.
