The turbulent release of Cyberpunk 2077 put CD Projekt RED, the studio responsible for the controversial RPG, in the eye of the storm. However, the game’s problems did not stop the company from breaking a new earnings record last year.
CD Projekt RED shared today a report with the company’s estimated earnings in 2020. However, it is worth mentioning that the data provided has not yet undergone a formal audit, so the results may differ from the actual revenue, which will be published on April 22.
CD Projekt Red achieved new record revenues
Despite the controversial release of Cyberpunk 2077 last December 10, the Polish company generated zł2140 million PLN ($562 MDD, approximately) from consolidated sales throughout 2020. Such an amount quadruples the figure provided in 2019.
Additionally, this new record far exceeds the company’s previous record. In 2015, the year in which The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt debuted, CD Projekt RED generated zł2140 million PLN, which would translate to $210 MDD, approximately.
On the other hand, the developer also achieved a new net profit record in 2020. Specifically, it generated about PLN zł1150 million ($303 MDD). Such a figure is 3 times higher than the one reported in 2015, where results of zł42 million PLN ($89.8 MDD) were achieved.
Despite the company’s good finances in the past year, it is undeniable that it is currently suffering from the consequences of the Cyberpunk 2077 release. However, the developer will not take their finger off the ball and has already confirmed that it will not abandon the project.
