The latest news indicates that Snap is working on a new AR Spectacles and a drone. You may remember Spectacles, the glasses manufactured by Snap with which we could record Snaps from our point of view thanks to their integrated cameras. Although this concept has not taken off, it is very likely that Snap will try again by following the footsteps of Apple and its mixed reality glasses.
The company is developing new Spectacles with augmented reality. The information about these new generation Spectacles comes in the midst of great speculation due to Apple’s confirmation of the date for the WWDC, i.e., the developers’ conference of the company.
Snap is working on Spectacles with AR
The sources assure that these new Spectacles will work in a similar way to the rumored Apple ones. They will mount screens on the lenses so the user can see augmented reality effects without having to rely on the phone. This is something that was criticized in the old Spectacles, which needed to be connected to our smartphone.
These Spectacles will be aimed at developers and content creators and not so much at consumers, which would indicate that they would start from a high price. However, thanks to this predisposition to developers, they could create their own glasses or lenses along with experiences that consumers could use in the future.
Recall that Snap’s CEO has said on other occasions that AR-based hardware will be the company’s future, and Spectacles could well be considered prototypes in pursuit of a final product. The only problem for the company is that it won’t be short of competition; Oppo, Apple, and even Pokémon Go developer Niantic are preparing their respective Spectacles, and we could see real news very soon.
A new drone is also on the way
Regarding the drone, the truth is that there is very little information. The most important rumors date back to 2017 after Snap bought a company dedicated to these devices. This developer invested $20 million in drone companies located in China.
