Steam Link is an app that allows us to turn our iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV into a screen for games running on another computer. The app has been available for iOS/iPadOS/tvOS for some time now, but it is now that Steam has also released it on the Mac App Store.
Steam Link comes to the Mac App Store
The arrival of Steam Link to the Mac App Store is undoubtedly good news, as it allows us to use our Mac to interact with games running on another computer. This means that the game processing falls to another machine, so all we need to play on our Mac is an app and a good internet connection.
The Steam Link is designed to leverage the power you already have at home, streaming from your current gaming computer, mirroring its experience on your device. Video and audio data is sent from your computer to the Steam Link, while controller input is sent back in real-time. Virtually every game running on your computer can be played on your device via the Steam Link.
With Steam Link we can set up a custom game server that can be accessed just as easily from our Mac, Apple TV, iPhone, or iPad over the internet. We do not know why Valve has taken so long to release the Mac version of an app that has been available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV for more than two years, but in any case, it is good news.
The application is compatible with macOS from High Sierra and it is recommended that we use it connected via Ethernet or at least on the 5GHz network if we use a wireless connection. We can purchase the app for free from the Mac App Store.
