Since a few hours ago we are having problems with Android. Some frequently used applications close by themselves as soon as they are opened. It does not happen to everyone, but it does seem to affect many users, something to keep in mind with applications such as Gmail, Outlook, or Google.

This bug comes from the operating system’s WebView and Google is already aware of what is happening and is working on a solution, as reported by The Verge. So if you are one of the people affected, do not worry, at some point, it will fix itself, Android will be updated.

The operation of Android System WebView is simple to explain, it serves as a connection between the browser and the different applications so that the latter doesn’t need to have all the functions downloaded. But being so essential, it can also cause massive problems if it fails.

Given the number of people affected, some companies have taken the initiative and provided temporary solutions. One example is that of Samsung, which has shared the way to avoid it through the technical service offered by Twitter:

Hi! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Please remove the Webview Update and then restart the phone. Here are the steps: Go settings > apps > tap the three dots in the top right corner > show system apps > search for Android System WebView > select Uninstall updates. ^Nina

As you can see, it is not complicated to avoid this problem if you need to use the mobile at this time without suffering from the problem. It will only cost you a minute, is to disable Android System WebView updates.

To deactivate these problematic updates follow these simple steps:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and open Show system processes.
  • Go to Android System WebView.
  • Click again on the three dots in the upper right corner, where you will be offered a single option: Uninstall updates. Click on it.

Once you do it should open normally all applications, but if it does not happen you may need to restart the mobile. Then you will see how everything is back in perfect condition. As we say, Google will surely update Android in a short time, but in the meantime, you can continue using your phone normally with this trick.
