The dark mode of Google Maps is included first in version 10.61.2. Therefore, make sure you have the latest version of the app installed on your smartphone.
How to activate the dark mode on Google Maps?
When you have the latest version, you can start the process by following these steps:
- Open the Google Maps app on your mobile and tap on the profile image of your account in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Then, tap on “Settings” to enter the app’s options menu.
- In the “Settings” menu go to Navigation settings>Colour display.
- Choose the option “Always in Dark Theme” or “Same as device theme” if you want the theme to change automatically based on the system theme.
It is worth mentioning that this feature will not affect the map style when we are in Google Maps navigation mode.
In case you have an iPhone or iPad device, the dark mode of Google Maps will arrive soon. Google confirmed that they are working on this feature for Apple devices.
