If you want to learn how to use an Xbox or PlayStation controller to control Kodi, we are going to help you out. Kodi 19 ‘Matrix’ was released just a few days ago, and among its many new features, there is the support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers, which lets you use Kodi way easier.

How to use an Xbox controller to control Kodi?

This works with Xbox 360 and Series X/S controller. Whether you connect via cable or Bluetooth, Kodi will recognize your controller automatically. The Xbox controller works great with Windows 10, so after plugging it in, it automatically configures itself in a few seconds.

If you want to connect via Bluetooth just press for a few seconds the small button on the front of the controller (next to the USB port) that has three bars. Once the light on the Xbox button starts flashing, you can go to the Windows 10 Bluetooth options and add a new device.

The next thing is to open Kodi and you will immediately notice that you can control it using the Xbox controller. If you would like to configure your controller, you can do that as well.

How to use a PlayStation controller to control Kodi?

Connecting the PlayStation controller to Windows 10, or even macOS is quite simple. The system recognizes it immediately and configures it automatically. Unfortunately, when you open Kodi you will notice that it does not work automatically.

For this, you need to calibrate the controller, and preferably by downloading a Dualshock profile for Kodi. It’s not too complicated, but it takes some time. First, open Kodi Settings and select System.

There select Input and click on Configure connected controllers. Kodi knows that your PlayStation controller is connected, but it doesn’t recognize the input when you touch its buttons.

By default, Kodi configures the controller profile as an Xbox 360 one. The ideal thing here is to install a new profile, preferably a Dualshock one to calibrate the buttons without confusion. Click on the options, “Get more” and navigate through the controller options until you find PlayStation DualShock.

You can do the settings now. To do this just select the controller from the list of installed profiles on the right and click the first button in the button column.

Kodi will show you messages to press “circle”, “triangle”, “right”, “stick up”, etc. When you’re done, you’ll notice that you can now control the Kodi interface with your Dualshock.
