Upcoming Galaxy Watch could use Android instead of Tizen. Samsung initially embarked on the world of smartwatches with Android Wear, the predecessor of what is now Wear OS. However, over the years they jumped from that operating system to Tizen, their platform.
During the last time, the system developed by Google has grown to the point of getting back to capture the attention of the South Korean company, which would be considering working again with this alternative for their smartwatches.
The idea of a new Galaxy Watch with Wear OS, the adaptation of Android for smartwatches, is not something new. It is a rumor that has circulated back and forth for the past few years. However, the situation is different now.
The repercussion of this comment, reaching even echoes in the specialized press, is because Ice Universe, a recognized leader and with a base that supports it in the medium, launched a few days ago the first comment, which was subsequently developed by other dedicated portals, such as SamMobile.
In the absence of an official announcement, for the moment some comments have emerged about the realization of this eventual transition of operating system during this year. It would be two models, belonging to the Galaxy Active category, which would premiere the return of Android to Samsung watches.
The decision to move from Android Wear to Tizen in 2014 was not only based on the idea of generating an interconnected ecosystem between all Samsung devices, from gadgets to home appliances. Also, performance weaknesses motivated the search for a new horizon.
The outlook with Tizen promised great improvements, but they were not noticed. Devices that are more than a generation apart have minimal differences in their system design and performance. Also, certain functions, such as the electrocardiogram integrated in Galaxy Watch Active 2 of 2019, have had a very slow deployment, not yet being available in several regions where the device was commercially distributed.
Today, Wear OS can boast a more robust and fluid proposal thanks to the development of the last few years. There are aspects in which the differences are noticeable between one operating system and another, such as the offer of third-party applications, one of the main weaknesses of Tizen, to which Android presents itself in a better way.
