We’ve been talking about how Google didn’t add privacy labels to its iOS apps, finally, YouTube will have them now. The company has not updated its most important apps on Apple devices for more than two months. After the lapse, Google has made the obligatory exercise of transparency with its popular video platform, YouTube.
YouTube now has privacy labels on iOS devices
“As Google’s iOS apps are updated with new features or to fix bugs, you’ll see updates to our app page listings that include the new App Privacy Details. These labels represent the maximum categories of data that could be collected—meaning if you use every available feature and service in the app. The data you provide to Google products delivers helpful services to you, and you can always control your privacy settings by visiting your Google Account or going directly to the Google products you use on iOS,” Google officials said in a blog post.
Google makes use of large amounts of user data
Now on iOS, users receive detailed information on what data apps collect and which apps are used to track them across the Internet. In this regard, Google has unveiled the enormous deployment it uses in apps, YouTube collects a large amount of private information.
After more than two months without updates, YouTube is the first to be forced to report everything it captures. It is one of Google’s best weapons within iOS, not in vain the use of the app is huge: it is number one in the ‘Photo and Video’ category and had 15 million worldwide downloads in January 2021 alone. With this impact, it is logical that Google seeks to monetize the platform on iOS.
In the App Store, we can already read all the data obtained from the user. Strictly in terms of tracking, YouTube uses contact data and device identifiers. With these tools, the company tracks the user across the web and other apps in order to, among other things, display advertising to the user via platforms such as AdWords or AdMob.
In addition, Google records a multitude of other data for use in its advertising services; from the user’s physical address to the phone number or browsing history. Since YouTube is a regular app on all iOS devices, the volume of data obtained by Google is remarkably high.
YouTube’s latest version is now available on iOS for download. If you have an iOS device, and you are interested in continuing to use the application, you can now redownload it from the App Store.
