More than 100 million people around the world use Apple Watch. It is a milestone that undoubtedly reflects the usefulness of this small device that accompanies us everywhere and provides us with the most relevant and important information anytime.

According to the analysts, Apple surpassed this significant figure last December 2020, shortly after the launch of the Apple Watch Series 6 and SE. Recall that this device, although introduced in 2014, hit stores in mid-2015, which means that in a few months it will be exactly six years on the market.

Apple Watch has over 100 million users

In 2020 Apple sold 30 million Apple Watch to users who were buying one for the first time. Values that exceed what we could see in 2015, 2016, and 2017 combined. In other words, the growth in adoption, as we can see in the graph above, accelerates noticeably with each passing year.

There are an estimated 1 billion active iPhones in the world and the percentage of users who also enjoy an Apple Watch is 10%. This value might increase significantly given the new family configuration mode on smartwatches with cellular connectivity and we may experience a significant acceleration, with more and more users who may opt for a smartwatch instead of an iPhone.

It should be said that while 10% might seem like a low figure when you consider the huge market available for smartphones and the considerably smaller market for smartwatches, the perception varies. It is currently Apple’s fourth-largest product, by volume, behind the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. But the Apple Watch is expected to overtake the Mac by 2022.

On the other hand, services such as Fitness+, improvements in health monitoring has a greater role in this growth. Looks like blood glucose monitoring will be the next trend among smartwatches, every rumor indicates that the new Apple Watch will also have this feature for sure.
