In recent months we seem to be seeing a strong transformation in Xiaomi, which is positioning itself as an innovative company. The Chinese company has always tried to attract users with its value for money, but it seems that its future is trying to go the other way.
Xiaomi presents in the video its first concept phone without ports
Recently we talked about its revolutionary wireless charging, something that we do not know when we will be able to use worldwide or in other markets on a massive scale.
Now the company has presented a new product, a concept phone that boasts four curvatures on the sides of the screen and no port.
It should be made clear that the company has said that this phone is conceptual, so for the moment there are no plans to make it real. It is something similar to what we saw with the original Xiaomi Mi MIX, but riskier.
As you can see in the image, this device has four very accentuated curvatures on the edges of the screen. Contrary to what we saw in the Honor Magic first and the P40s later, it is not the glass alone that is curved, but the entire internal screen.
This is made possible by the new folding panels, although it is striking that this has been avoided at the corners, where the folds make it complex. This would bring the design closer to real production.
In the concept video, we see the smartphone in motion, although it is a computer-created design. Nevertheless, the company has functional units in its laboratories.
Xiaomi has not announced any kind of intention to market this phone, let alone a date or even an estimated date. It seems an evolution of the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha, of which we know nothing for some time.
A smartphone without ports
A side effect of this design is that the sides do not allow the implementation of ports and buttons. The on/off buttons, infrared emitter, charging port, speakers, and SIM slot would be lost.
All of these are replaceable with virtual buttons, wireless charging, under-screen speakers, or an eSIM. Still, that’s too many changes to execute all at once.
Hopefully, Xiaomi will give us more information soon, perhaps at the unveiling event for the new Xiaomi Mi 11.
