Another problem linked to MIUI 12 linked to the fingerprint reader surfaced, causing sudden reboots in Xiaomi phones. But there is a solution in some models…
Some Xiaomi phones with MIUI 12 reboots when using the fingerprint reader
Forums and social networks have echoed this problem. It appeared in MIUI 12 and has spread to some models of the brand but especially in the Mi 9T. The problem is caused by the on-screen fingerprint reader. If you have the same problem, we are going to show you some solutions for stopping your phone to reboot.
After learning these problems, Xiaomi developers got down to work to try to give a quick solution to this bug. Although it has been a few weeks this problem has been first noticed, some users are still having the problem. This may be because their Xiaomi phone is using an operator modded OS and that means that more time passes until it can be solved.
However, there are other models with the Global ROM without being linked to operators, which are also dragging the fingerprint reader problem with MIUI 12 even after updating the mobile with all security patches. To check it we recommend that you must access the Settings > About phone > click on MIUI and see if you are using the Global ROM or not.
The solution: Reset biometric security
We may think that the update fixes everything, but sometimes MIUI 12 needs a little “push”. To recover the operation of the fingerprint reader without reboots on our phone, we will have to follow a few simple steps that what they do is force the restart of the Xiaomi biometric security system. Thus the rebooting problem will be gone. Follow these steps…
- Access the MIUI Settings.
- Slide down to Apps.
- Tap on Manage apps.
- Tap on MiuiBiometric.
- Access and tap on clear data, and confirm the action.
- If it does not work, the Hard Reset will be the alternative solution.
Sometimes these steps are not enough and it is also necessary to reset the entire system. To do this you have to erase everything from the phone and therefore you might need a backup girst. To reset a Xiaomi phone, follow these steps:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the power button and volume up.
- Release the volume buttons and press power button.
- Enter the option Wipe Data.
- Select Wipe All Data.
- Tap on Back to the main menu.
- And on the screen choose Reboot followed finally by Reboot to System.
