Apple updated the firmware of the HomePod Mini to take advantage of the U1 proximity chip.
Yesterday Apple released the new iOS 14.4, the new iPadOS 14.4, and the new watchOS 7.3. But it seems that the round of updates did not stop there. Now, as long as you have an iPhone with U1 chip, you can use the potential of this proximity chip. You can have haptic, sound, and visual feedback when sending songs to the HomePod Mini, or we you even see how the playback controls magically appear on the screen when you approach the HomePod Mini.
The new software version 14.4 includes bug fixes and the following new features compatible with the HomePod and iPhones equipped with the U1 (Ultra Wideband) chip.
- Quickly transfer music to your HomePod Mini (Hand off) from your iPhone with visual, audio, and haptic feedback.
- Receive personalized listening suggestions on the iPhone when you are near the HomePod Mini that is playing music.
- Media controls will automatically appear on the iPhone when unlocked near a HomePod Mini.
This update is certainly worthwhile and is the first to take advantage of the U1 chip. So if you have a HomePod Mini do not hesitate to update your device (from the Home app you can do it), to enjoy all these new features.
