Microsoft has begun testing a new feature to be incorporated into future updates of Windows 10: a ‘voice launcher’ that would improve the way users interact with applications and files in the Microsoft operating system.
Last September, Microsoft started testing a renewed version of the Screen Keyboard application, which included two new features: a new emojis section and a feature called ‘Windows Voice Typing’.

Microsoft is testing a new feature called “voice launcher” for Windows 10
And it is the latter that Microsoft now seeks to incorporate anywhere in the operating system where there is a text field with access to the Windows Search API.
When we click on one of these text fields, a widget will appear on the screen that allows us to use our voice to type something or make a search.
Once this new feature is activated, users will be able to turn on and off the voice launcher feature, as well as the auto-scoring function (which will allow us to add periods, commas, question marks by only using our voice).
The company is currently experimenting this new feature in the following regions and languages:
- English: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and India
- French: France and Canada.
- Portuguese: Brazil.
- Spanish.
- German.
- Italian.
- Japanese.
- Simplified Chinese.
The company ays they are confident that users will agree to share their search data with them to refine this technology, allowing more accurate searches based on the analysis of their voice commands (although clips with personal information will be deleted and the voice will not be linked to the user account)
“Your everyday use of voice typing could make Microsoft’s online speech tech more accurate for everyone who speaks your language. If you decide to contribute your voice clips, some of these clips will be reviewed by Microsoft employees and vendors,” the company stated.
Finally, while we have no official information on when the voice launcher feature will be implemented globally, it is likely that it will be incorporated into our Windows 10 with the future update in October 2021.
