Security and privacy are two things that users look for when contracting a VPN, but the reality is that they have many more advantages. However, let’s start from the beginning. VPN is an acronym for Virtual Private Network. These private networks allow access to multimedia material and undoubtedly offer a wide range of advantages.

  • Google adds a free VPN to its Google One service
  • Some of the most popular apps on Google Play have massive security flaws
  • If you still use Windows 7 you should check that security update

What is a VPN?

VPN is a term used to designate a virtual private network, where the most important aspect to highlight is its virtual condition. To understand it, we must know how the Internet service works, whether it is the one we have at home or at work.

Broadly speaking, we have a connectivity provider service that “takes” the Internet to our location through a wired system (fiber, ADSL…) or a wireless system (WiMax, 5G…). This provider directs the Internet service to our location which it reaches through a modem. This communicates with the router which is responsible for distributing the signal to all Internet devices in the home or office, ie PCs, tablets, smartphones, and more.

Each of the devices connected to the Internet has an IP address, which is private. In addition, all devices in the home or office connected to the Internet form a local network that allows them to exchange various files with each other, data, and more, without requiring passage through the Internet.

This is where the VPN comes into play, allowing the creation of a local network without the devices necessarily being physically interconnected. It does this using the Internet and that is why it is said to be a virtual network, being the most important aspect in its operation. A VPN offers the benefits of a local network, but with many more advantages that we will tell you in the next section.

10 reasons to use a VPN

These are the advantages of using a VPN:

  • It allows us to enjoy the advantages of a local network, but in a much broader way, each device in this network can even be located in different countries.
  • It makes the use of data tunnels possible, using the VPN server instead of the IP. When you connect to the internet, the connection is routed from your electronic device to your Internet service provider, but from there it is redirected to the VPN server and then to wherever you are. Basically, the content you access and the place from where you access will be private.
  • It allows you to hide your identity on the Internet, as it disguises your IP, making it impossible for your real data to be violated by computer criminals, platforms, legal agencies, or others.
  • It allows you to avoid geoblocks of content, as various platforms use the IP addresses of devices to restrict the content you can access. You can mask your IP and access content without geographical restrictions.
  • It provides you with security wherever you go since by connecting to WiFi networks other than those of your home, there’s the risk of having your data compromised, but by using a VPN it does not matter which WiFi network you connect to, your data will remain protected.

10 reasons to use a VPN: Here are all the advantages
  • Avoid speed and bandwidth limitations, since data traffic when using a VPN remains hidden you will be able to enjoy more bandwidth without paying more.
  • It allows you to avoid firewall barriers, especially when you need to use a different Wi-Fi connection than your home, which has limited access sites through firewalls. You will be able to avoid these limitations.
  • It allows you to access Torrent content in a secure way since your data will be kept safe.
  • Itallows you to access higher quality games, offering you the advantages of using other locations.
  • Using it can even save you money, as you can take advantage of offers on content from other countries without having to physically be there.

Furthermore, by using a secure and reliable VPN you can avoid the most important negative aspect, which is the vulnerability of your data. For all these reasons, we advise you to use it and enjoy the benefits.
