Activision says WoW: Shadowlands becomes the best-selling PC game at its launch. Blizzard’s latest release, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, sold 3.7 million copies worldwide on its first day of release, surpassing any other PC game in history, according to the company.
The previous record-holder was Diablo 3, which sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide on its first day. In November, the studio behind Shadowlands had announced that the WoW expansion had more presales than any other to date.
Activision also said that player participation in World of Warcraft reached its highest levels in a decade with the launch.
In the months leading up to the launch of the expansion and in the time since the release, the game reached and maintained its highest number of players with monthly or longer-term subscriptions of any WoW expansion in the last decade, worldwide.
Shadowlands, the eighth expansion of the MMORPG, was released on November 23rd, so players can expect more content in the coming weeks and months. Starting today, Shadowlands Season 1 will see the first foray into the expansion, Castle Nathria. Revendreth’s fortress will be open on Normal and Heroic difficulty.
