Rockstar Games announced a strange move, to launch Red Dead Online (RDO), the multiplayer mode of Red Dead Redemption 2, as an independent game.The move comes when the Red Dead Redemption 2 has harvested very discreet sales to be a Rockstar game, 35 million copies compared to more than 135 million copies of the Grand Theft Auto V.
With this version of Red Dead Online players will be able to enjoy all the content of the online component and its future updates. What they will not have access to is the Red Dead Redemption 2 campaign.
Rockstar will be selling RDO at an “introductory” price of $4.99. Starting on February 15th, 2021, that price tag will shoot up to $19.99.

It is important to note that you will also have the opportunity to play Red Dead Online on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is thanks to the backward compatibility of both new generation consoles. But you shouldn’t expect specific enhancements designed to take advantage of the new hardware.
