Google Nest Thermostat comes with the Soli motion sensor. We didn’t see lots of changes in the Nest’s thermostats since Google acquired the company. Now, the home automation device has been completely updated by introducing a design line closer to Google’s style.

Google Nest Thermostat: New design, new ways of use
As we have seen in the previous generation, the new Nest Thermostat maintains the brand’s own circular design and with the idea of fitting it on a vertical wall. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t have external changes. The screen for example now has a mirror finish that reflects when its not running. Finally, Google has introduced four different colors to choose from: snow (white), sand (cream pink), charcoal (gray) and fog (light green).
But perhaps the most relevant change is found in the control of the thermostat. The rotating wheel is now gone. Instead, the sides of the Nest Thermostat are now tactile. On the other hand, it is also possible to control the thermostat from the Google Home app, which is now 100% compatible with the Nest Thermostat. The use of the device has been simplified by adding more automation and better control from voice assistants such as Alexa and, of course, Google Assistant.
Although the new Google Nest Thermostat includes a Soli motion sensor like the Pixel 4, it is not used in the same way here. It is primarily used to activate the display when the user approaches to the thermostat. This also helps the thermostat to know when the user is at home or in which room he/she is, to switch automatically between different modes. This is information is achieved with the help of the mobile phone’s location.
Thanks to Google Nest Thermostat’s automation functions and the recommendations Google Nest will save 10-15% of the energy used. This is achieved by regulating the temperature a few degrees lower during the night, which is not noticeable to the user, but it is noticeable in terms of consumption. In short, it is an intelligent thermostat.
Google Nest Thermostat is now available in the United States and Canada with a $129.99 price tag.
