Apple is developing a new version of Siri, aiming to create a more conversational voice assistant powered by advanced large language models (LLMs). This initiative is part of Apple’s strategy to enhance its AI capabilities in response to competitive pressures from firms like OpenAI and Google.
According to reports from Bloomberg and corroborated by multiple sources, Apple plans to replace its current Siri interface with a new model, often called “LLM Siri.” The revamped assistant is expected to enable users to engage in more natural conversations, resembling interactions possible with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini Live. The company intends to unveil this feature in the spring of 2026.

The redesigned Siri aims to perform more sophisticated tasks, leveraging Apple’s proprietary AI models to improve its handling of complex queries. Users will experience expanded capabilities, including a refined ability to interact with third-party apps through App Intents. A notable feature will include Apple’s AI’s ability to summarize and write text, aligning with current trends in enhancing user engagement through conversational interfaces.
In the interim, Apple is integrating third-party technologies into its devices. Starting next month, OpenAI’s ChatGPT will be embedded into Apple Intelligence, enhancing Siri’s functionality while Apple continues to develop its own LLM Siri. Apple also reportedly plans to establish partnerships with other AI providers, such as Google and Anthropic, to further bolster its AI offerings.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software, discussed the differences between Siri and other advanced AI models. He noted Siri’s utility for practical, everyday tasks, stating, “There are many, many useful things Siri does for you every day, does them quickly and locally on your device.” This distinction underscores Apple’s intention to prioritize the seamless execution of everyday commands while enhancing conversational capabilities.
Apple has gradually rolled out its AI-based enhancements for Siri, recently adding ChatGPT integration in the iOS 18.2 beta version. This update is the first significant move towards a more AI-driven Siri, marking a shift in how users might interact with their devices. More updates are slated for release next year, focusing on an improved understanding of user context through screen content and application actions, further enriching the user experience.
