Xiaomi surprised the smartphone market by launching the 14T series and the Mix Flip foldable phone. Many perceive mere upgrades as integral to a large global product launch that highlights exciting new technology features. The standout among the group is Google’s Circle to Search along with Gemini Nano, which, until this point, had limited availability on some Samsung and Pixel devices. However, Xiaomi is making these tools available with its current releases.
What makes this launch interesting is how Xiaomi positions itself regarding these Google features, putting the brand on the same level as colossal competitors like Samsung and Google. Nowadays, it’s more than the phones; it’s about the experience. With the global rollout, people are gaining access to remarkable artificial intelligence-powered capabilities.
Circle to Search and Gemini Nano hit the global stage
The richest takeaway from this release is Xiaomi’s dive into Google’s Circle to Search and Gemini Nano. For those new to Circle to Search, it’s an AI feature that Google has launched primarily for Pixel and Samsung devices. This device helps users look up apps and the internet, leveraging the capability of AI to deliver personalized and intuitive results. As the first devices outside the exclusive circles, Xiaomi’s 14T, 14T Pro, and Mix Flip now offer this functionality worldwide.
The introduction of the more sophisticated on-device language model for AI workloads, Gemini Nano from Google, coincides with Xiaomi’s new products. Now, on Google’s Pixel and some Galaxy phones, Gemini Nano has been rolled out to boost user experience through Artificial Intelligence, starting with Google Messages. Beginning in October, Xiaomi users will have access to smarter responses and improved messaging features facilitated by AI. Max Weinbach of 9to5Google has also pointed out that these features are about to roll out to various apps and platforms, signaling a wider rollout.
Xiaomi 14T and Mix Flip: A mid-year boost in power and display
While the AI components tend to grab attention, Xiaomi’s hardware developments are worth acknowledging. Each 14T series and Mix Flip includes a 6.7-inch, 144Hz display, which offers an extremely bright and smooth experience far superior to the previous 13T series. Thanks to their impressive displays and high refresh rates, these screens are designed to manage everything from quick gaming to complete viewings of your favorite television shows.
The phones are capable of great things when you look under the hood. The lead in performance is taken by the 14T Pro, powered by MediaTek chips and featuring a Dimensity 9300+ processor along with 12GB or 16GB of RAM. If you prefer speed, the 120W charging is an incredible development, enabling faster phone charging. Unlike the 14T, the Dimensity 8300-Ultra in the latter is slightly less powerful, along with 67W wired charging that doesn’t feature wireless charging seen on some flagship models.
Xiaomi hasn’t shied away from its camera setup either. The 14T Pro includes a 50MP primary camera, a 50MP telephoto lens for 2.6x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide. On the other hand, the normal 14T has a slightly reduced configuration, filling out its lens collection with a 50MP main camera and a telephoto lens that reaches slightly over 2x zoom. Users have various options when snapping photos, given that the ultrawide lens remains 12MP for both models.
Price and availability
Those interested in one of these devices can find the Xiaomi 14T series and the Mix Flip available globally now. Costing €650 for the 14T and €800 for the Pro edition, these smartphones arrive with a rich offering in both software and hardware, making them a captivating option for anyone wanting more from their smartphone.
