YouTube continues to evolve the platform, and at its latest event in New York, Made on YouTube 2024, 9 new features were unveiled. YouTube changes took center stage at the event, integrating artificial intelligence, shorts, inspiration, new interfaces, and new features for shopping.
What is Made on YouTube 2024?
YouTube’s annual Made on YouTube event is an important gathering to showcase the new tools and features the platform offers to its creative community. At this event, YouTube shares with creators innovations that will make their creative process more efficient and technological advancements that will make it easier for them to reach global audiences. In 2024, 9 new remarkable innovations were announced at the event.
Dream Screen and Veo integrate to create YouTube shorts
Among the most exciting announcements, YouTube is introducing Veo, Google DeepMind’s AI video creation model, to enhance its Dream Screen tool. First announced in 2023, Dream Screen allowed creators to create custom backgrounds for YouTube Shorts. Now Veo enables creators to create full six-second video clips based on text prompts.
Creators can enter a text prompt into Dream Screen and get a variety of output options, from image backgrounds to animated video clips. Veo supports a variety of styles and can output clips at 1080p resolution. It offers seamless video production for Shorts, positioning it to compete with other AI video producers such as Firefly and Gen-3 Alpha. Additionally, all content created using Veo will carry a watermark through Google’s SynthID system to maintain transparency, but this watermark can be manually removed.
Inspiration in YouTube Studio
The Inspiration tab in YouTube Studio is also getting an upgrade, with AI-powered features designed to help creators with content ideation. This tool suggests video concepts, titles, thumbnails, and even scripts based on current trends and the creator’s channel preferences.
It’s an ideal way to kickstart the creative process, especially for those struggling with content ideas. This addition can serve as a launchpad for creators to mold these suggestions into fully developed projects, offering titles and outlines tailored to each creator’s unique style and audience. Whether it’s brainstorming the next viral hit or optimizing a video’s presentation, the Inspiration tab streamlines the creative workflow in a way that’s both intuitive and accessible.
The new face of YouTube Community
YouTube is further expanding the concept of community on its platform, giving creators new ways to connect with their audiences. The Community Hub is a space where creators can engage directly with their fans by posting pictures, sharing thoughts, and interacting with their latest videos. This Hub is also getting a facelift with better tools for creators to manage interactions, including AI-driven comment reply suggestions to help streamline engagement with large audiences.
These updates allow for a more dynamic, ongoing relationship between creators and their communities, making it easier to foster deeper connections. The revamped Hub will soon be available to more channels, extending these benefits to a broader swath of the YouTube community.
YouTube’s new auto dubbing service is a big deal
One of YouTube’s most impactful updates is the expansion of its automatic dubbing service. Initially limited to a select group of creators, auto dubbing will soon be available to hundreds of thousands more, enabling creators to reach global audiences more easily.
With automatic dubbed audio tracks, creators can make their content accessible in multiple languages, significantly broadening their potential reach. This feature removes a major obstacle for creators trying to grow internationally, as videos can be seamlessly dubbed into languages such as French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Target YouTube beginners and Hype the winning button
YouTube is also introducing a new feature designed to help smaller creators gain visibility on the platform. Placed just below the “Like” button on videos, the “Hype” button allows viewers to give extra support to their favorite creators. Targeted at channels with fewer than 500,000 subscribers, the button gives these creators a chance to be discovered by new audiences.
The more hype a video receives, the higher it climbs on the weekly Hype leaderboard, providing an additional way to promote content. To prevent abuse of this feature, users will be limited to three hype per week. However, there are plans to monetize the feature in the future, allowing fans to purchase additional hype, generating revenue for both creators and YouTube.
YouTube Shopping expansion
YouTube’s Shopping platform continues to grow, with the affiliate program expanding beyond the U.S. and South Korea into new markets like Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This move increases opportunities for creators to monetize their channels by linking viewers directly to products they endorse, helping to turn content into commerce.
With over 250,000 creators already participating in YouTube Shopping, this expansion will allow even more influencers and content creators to benefit from the program.
TikTok’s gifts feature is now available on YouTube Live
Gifts, powered by Jewels, will soon launch on vertical live streams, offering another way for fans to support creators in real-time. Jewels work similarly to the “gifts” feature on TikTok, allowing viewers to send virtual tokens of appreciation during live streams.
This feature encourages more active participation during live broadcasts and creates another revenue stream for creators. By giving fans an easy way to express their support, YouTube is enhancing the overall experience for both creators and viewers.
YouTube’s TV viewership is on the rise
As more people watch YouTube on their televisions, the platform is optimizing how creators present their content on larger screens. Soon, creators will be able to organize their videos into seasons and episodes, much like traditional TV shows, making it easier for viewers to follow along.
In addition, YouTube is introducing autoplay for channel pages, which will allow creators to immerse visitors in their content from the moment they land on their page. This is particularly useful for giving first-time viewers a strong impression of what the channel is all about.
A Platform for All Creators
With nine new features, YouTube is showing us its approach to empowering creators of all sizes and backgrounds. YouTube has been an inspirational platform for years, but it’s also trying to stay relevant by integrating some of the features of other platforms. By integrating advanced AI tools, improving community engagement, and offering more ways to grow and monetize, YouTube continues to be a platform where creativity and business thrive together.
