Discord upload limit, the platform has decided to reduce the file upload size to only 10 MB for free users. At a time when competing platforms are innovating to attract users, Discord is confident of its hegemony and is making decisions like this. Discord is often used to chat, play games, and share files, but this new restriction has raised some eyebrows. Previously, free users could upload files of up to 25 MB, but now that number has dropped significantly.

However, this change was not without reason. Discord stated that the cost of managing file storage had become too high to maintain the previous limit. Despite this, the company pointed out that most users were already sharing files under 10 MB, making the decision feel a little less dramatic for many. Still, not a few users said that this seemed like a move to attract users to Discord Nitro.

Why is the Discord upload limit change all about numbers?

In an update to its support page, Discord explained that storage management is expensive and the decision to lower the upload limit is part of a larger strategy. The company explained that millions of files are uploaded every day and storing them efficiently is key to running the platform smoothly. According to their data, 99% of users do not exceed the new Discord upload limit of 10 MB. Of course, this is their data and they didn’t publish it in an open source, they just said: “based on data”. It’s up to you to believe it or not.

The platform has seen multiple adjustments over the years. Before the 25 MB limit, free users could only upload files up to 8 MB. Technology has evolved and advancements have been made and now the 25 MB file limit has dropped to 10 MB instead of increasing. Criticism of Discord has been on the rise lately, and let’s not forget that competitors will do anything if they hear crickets.

How can users bypass the Discord upload limit?

While the Discord upload limit for free users may cause frustration for those trying to share larger videos or images, there are still options for those who need more space. Paid options. Discord encourages users who need higher limits to consider upgrading to Nitro or Nitro Basic. Nitro Basic, which costs $3 per month, increases the limit to 50 MB, while Nitro, which costs $10 per month, provides a substantial limit of 500 MB.

Discord also said that, unlike other platforms, they keep your files for as long as they are needed. But for users looking for even bigger limits, services like WhatsApp and Telegram allow uploads of up to 2 GB, which may seem more generous.
