The Copilot event is just around the corner and Microsoft plans to unveil what it calls “the next phase of Copilot innovation”. The company is holding a special event on September 16, led by CEO Satya Nadella and Jared Spataro, vice president of AI at work. What makes this Copilot event stand out is Microsoft’s focus on its business offerings and a few changes that could attract some attention.
Rebranding and beyond with Copilot event
Dubbed “Wave 2”, the Copilot event promises to introduce new features, but it’s not just about additions. Word on the street is that Microsoft will also be making some branding changes. “Instead of ‘Copilot in Word’, the name will change to ‘Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word’. Similar changes will take place in other applications. The move is a classic Microsoft approach to branding and Copilot is trying to better figure out how AI offerings are delivered. After Windows, Microsoft is trying to make Microsoft 365 a brand on that level.
So we can say it’s splitting into 3 branches. Windows, Microsoft 365, and Copilot. If it harmonizes the ecosystem of these 3 systems, the brand value will be better understood. But we will all see how the paid use of Microsoft 365 and Copilot will be properly integrated into a one-time payment system like Windows.
Despite the interest in rebranding, the Copilot event will also reveal new features for business users. Microsoft wants to convince more companies to invest in the $30 per user per month subscription. While Copilot’s AI features were integrated into Office apps this year, many are still debating whether the price tag is justified. And they question why they would pay for a system that already works.
What else might be at the event?
Aside from commercial features, the Copilot event could include updates to Copilot Pro, a consumer subscription plan priced at $20 per month. Copilot Pro hasn’t seen much in the way of new tools since its launch earlier this year. However, there is speculation that more announcements could be on the way after some features were removed in June.
If you’re curious to see what’s coming, Microsoft’s Copilot event will take place on Monday, September 16 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET and will be streamed live on LinkedIn.
