Pixel 9 phones have been making waves with their AI-powered features, and two of the most notable ones are the Pixel Screenshot app and Pixel Studio app.
While both apps offer some impressive image generation capabilities, they’ve also come under fire for their potential to generate problematic content.
What is the Pixel Screenshot app?
The Pixel Screenshot app allows users to capture screenshots of their devices with AI-powered editing tools. This means you can select an image or object within your screenshot and have it edited, resized, or even removed altogether. The app also offers various filters and effects to enhance your images.
While this may seem like a useful tool for quick photo edits, some concerns have been raised about the potential for misuse. For example, what if someone were to use these tools to remove important information from a screenshot? Or alter the context of an image to misrepresent reality?

What is the Pixel Studio app?
The Pixel Studio app, on the other hand, generates images based on text prompts. You simply type in what you want to see, and the app will create a unique image for you. This can range from realistic depictions of objects or scenes to more stylized or abstract creations.

However, as our colleague Joe Maring discovered, Pixel Studio has some significant issues with generating problematic content. When asked to create images of copyrighted characters in compromising situations, the app happily obliged without any hesitation.
Google’s response
In response to these concerns, Google has issued a statement explaining that both apps follow their AI Principles and have safety checks in place to prevent abuse. They’ve also disabled human generation and added “many safety checks” to their servers to ensure the responsible use of these tools.
However, as Joe Maring’s experience demonstrates, these measures don’t seem to be working as intended. It’s clear that Google needs to do more to address these concerns and ensure that its AI-powered image generation tools are used responsibly.

Is there a Pixel Screenshot APK?
As for the Pixel Screenshot app, there isn’t an official APK available outside of the Google Pixel devices. However, if you’re interested in similar screenshot-taking apps with editing features, there are plenty of alternatives available on the Google Play Store.
In conclusion, while both the Pixel Screenshot and Pixel Studio apps have the potential as innovative image generation tools, they also come with significant concerns about misuse and problematic content generation. It’s up to Google to address these issues and ensure that their users can enjoy these features without worrying about unintended consequences.
