When I logged into my social media account, I saw many of my illustrator friends had switched to the Cara app. Out of curiosity, I decided to write this article.
As far as I understand, the Cara app is an escape platform for people who produce AI-generated visuals (who introduce themselves as artists). Many of my friends switched to this platform and started sharing their portfolios. So, what is the Cara app? Let’s take a closer look.
What is the Cara app?
Cara app can be used on the web and mobile devices. Its interface is similar to Twitter, formerly known as X. In fact, I found the platform’s logic a bit like Fiverr. You can make great earnings and meet talented artists if you have a certain portfolio. In short, the Cara app has no artificial intelligence on its platform! Everything is completely real!
Even though I’m not an illustrator, I’m really happy for my fellow artists because they won’t have to deal with fraudsters who violate copyrights. I haven’t had a chance to experience the app because I’m not an illustrator, but I’ll share some of the images I like (no AI, completely hand-drawn) with you.
Why is the Cara app preferred?
Many of my artist friends got fed up with Meta’s ridiculous policies on Instagram and Facebook and switched to this platform when they heard about its existence. As far as I can see, they are all in good spirits. We can define the Cara app as a completely anti-AI social platform. On the other hand, the platform increased its users from 40,000 to 650,000 last week, which continues to grow exponentially.
If you don’t want to use Meta AI and want to learn how to disable it, you can read the related article we shared.
Many illustrators I know are trying to sell their artworks through Instagram or Facebook. However, as the number of people using artificial intelligence to create and sell images on Instagram and Facebook has increased, the income of real artists has decreased. Therefore, it was inevitable to switch to the Cara app, which applies AI policies that Meta does not.
Although I am a musician myself, I appreciate the behavior of many artists around me. This is where we find the answer to the question we have been discussing lately: Will artificial intelligence take away our jobs? Yes, artificial intelligence is taking our jobs. Companies and platforms need to stop it.
Here’s what Cara had to say about their stance on AI:
“Our stance on AI: We do not agree with generative AI tools in their current unethical form, and we won’t host AI-generated portfolios unless the rampant ethical and data privacy issues around datasets are resolved via regulation”.
— Cara
Is Cara app free?
As mentioned above, you can access the Cara app on your mobile device or the web. It is also completely free to use, so you can choose it!
Back to the topic, Instagram has started tagging real photos as AI. Imagine you’re a concert photographer taking photos of your favorite band at a great concert, and Instagram tags them as “Made with AI”. How annoying is that? If that happened to me, I would probably stop using Instagram and all of Meta’s platforms because I think it’s disrespectful. So, I totally understand why artists and photographers prefer Cara.
The rise of the Cara app is an important development due to the controversies and copyright violations that artificial intelligence has created in the art world. This platform, which takes a stance against the devaluation of artists’ work, is a social media app and a resistance movement. With the hope of raising more awareness about the ethical use of AI technologies and protecting artists’ rights, we can say that Cara will open a new chapter in the art world.
