X, formerly Twitter, has revised its terms of service to open the door wider to adult sexual posts.
The company has only one requirement: Content must not be shared in areas that are not clearly visible, i.e., in the profile picture or cover image sections. Sexually explicit content posted on a profile picture or cover image will likely not be accepted. Here’s all we know…
According to TechCrunch, the X platform, which was taken over by Elon Musk, allows users to share consensually produced and shared adult content. However, as mentioned, this content should not be in the profile picture or cover image section.
X’s new policy includes the old Sensitive Media and Violent Speech policies
The popular social media platform’s new policies, “Adult Content and Violent Content“, include the old Sensitive Media and Violent Speech policies.
The platform requires users who regularly post sexually explicit content to mark it as sensitive content. X’s rules apply to any adult content, whether AI-generated, photography, or animation.
X restricts access to sexually explicit content for users under the age of 18 or who have not provided their date of birth. It also prohibits content that promotes abuse, non-consent, objectification, sexualization or harm to minors, and obscene behavior.
The platform supports the right of adults to create and share their own sexual expression. However, this freedom is balanced by limiting the exposure of children or adult users to adult content.
X does not allow content that is excessively gory or depicts sexual violence. It also excludes content that explicitly threatens or incites violence.
Reuters reported in 2022 that 13% of posts on the platform were adult content. This percentage seems to have increased with the rise of porn bots on the platform.
It is worth noting that following the launch of Twitter Blue (now X Premium), content creators can set up a system similar to OnlyFans to charge their followers for viewing content.
Following Elon Musk’s acquisition, the platform’s policy changes have become an important issue for users and regulators. It will be interesting to see how X will navigate this new journey.
