The Microsoft outage that emerged yesterday has paralyzed many platforms. So what happened, and which services stopped? Here are all the details.
The search features of Copilot, DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT, and many other services have been down since yesterday. The problem seems to be related to Bing’s API. You can also check the related article if you have a Copilot not working issue.
What is the cause of the Microsoft outage?
According to TechCrunch, the problem, which started at 03:00, affects services that depend on the Bing API. TechCrunch states that Bing was also down in the first place, and then the problem was fixed.
8 hours after the problems, OpenAI announced that the problem was fixed. “We experienced a partial interruption in ChatGPT’s web browsing features,” the company said, as Bing was unavailable.
On the other hand, DuckDuckGo also issued a statement that the problem has been fixed.
The sharing made by the Microsoft 365 Status account is as follows:
We’re broadening our mitigation efforts following signs of partial recovery for https://t.co/5QGpEMg7SR and other features. We’re closely monitoring to determine if further actions are needed to resolve the issue. Further details can be found in the admin center under CP795190.

Other search engines that depend on the Bing API, such as DuckDuckGo and Ecosia, could also not load search results during the outage. Microsoft’s Copilot experienced similar issues, preventing users from accessing the service. ChatGPT, on the other hand, offers web searches to its subscribers but gives error messages during the outage.
Such a major problem in the tech world has once again shown how connected everything is and proved how vulnerable the industry giants can be. So, what can be done to prevent such disruptions? What steps should companies take to make their systems more resilient? It is vital to find solutions to prevent such problems in the future.
