UK-based Arm is preparing to produce artificial intelligence chips and aims to launch its first products in 2025.
This move, seen as part of SoftBank’s plans to make artificial intelligence its main focus, could be an important development in the industry.
Here’s all we know…
UK chip designer Arm will produce AI chips targeting a launch in 2025
According to Nikkei Asia, it will enter this market by establishing a new AI chip division. The company hopes to have a prototype ready by spring 2025 and start shipping the chip in the fall. SoftBank is reportedly in talks with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (TSMC) about producing the chip.
These AI chips promise superior capabilities that enable them to handle massive data volumes and power next-generation AI applications. The new chips also support SoftBank’s vision of integrating AI with robotics and semiconductor technology.
Expected to reach $30 billion this year, the AI market is expected to grow to over $100 billion by 2029 and reach $200 billion by 2032. This explosive growth presents Arm with a tremendous market opportunity.
“AI is revolutionizing every industry, and Arm wants to be at the forefront. Our AI chips will unlock the next wave of AI applications and enable our customers to stay ahead of the curve“, stated Rene Haas, CEO of Arm.
SoftBank’s vision goes beyond just chips. They aim to combine these chips with robotics and semiconductor technology. This powerful integration has the potential to unlock a new wave of innovative products, further embedding AI into our daily lives.
The full impact of Arm’s entry into the AI chip market will be seen in future years. However, one thing is clear: Arm is now a major player to watch in the AI game.
