How to chat with Meta AI on WhatsApp
Before diving in, there’s a catch: Meta AI is currently on a limited rollout, available only in English and specific regions.
If you’re lucky enough to have access, here’s how to find it:
- Open WhatsApp and tap “New Chat.” Look for “Meta AI” as an option – that’s your gateway to brainy conversations.
- Alternatively, tap the search bar. If suggestions about what to ask Meta AI appear, you’ve found it!
Once you’ve located Meta AI, it’s time to chat! Here’s how to get started:
- If you found it in the “New Chat” menu, tap on it. You might need to agree to some terms before chatting.
- If Meta AI is in the search bar, type “@” followed by “Meta AI”. This wakes up the chatbot and opens a chat window.
What can you do with Meta AI?
Meta AI is a versatile companion. Here are some ways to interact:
Got something puzzling you? The AI can search the web and provide answers to your questions.
Feeling artistic? Give the AI a prompt, like “Write a funny poem about a dog,” and see what it comes up with.
Need help translating a message? The AI can translate between languages, helping you communicate more easily.
Have an image idea in mind? Describe it to the AI, and it might just generate an image for you!
Will Meta AI access your chat history?
While Meta AI interacts with the internet, your privacy is important.
Your regular WhatsApp chats are end-to-end encrypted, so Meta can’t read them. Conversations with Meta AI are separate and follow Meta’s privacy policy.
Besides, you can delete your chats with the AI anytime. You can also request Meta to remove any information you shared with the chatbot.
Also in your Instagram DMs
Meta AI seems to be making its way to your DMs as well. On Friday, reports emerged of people spotting the AI assistant within the Instagram app.

Just like with WhatsApp, the AI appears to be in a limited rollout on Instagram. This means not everyone will have access to it yet.
Some users found AI in the search bar, similar to WhatsApp. But interestingly, others found it directly in their Instagram Direct Messaging inbox.
While some reports suggested AI might recommend Reels specific to Instagram, it seems the assistant might simply be pulling recommendations from a wider pool regardless of the app.
