Apple is in big trouble. The tech giant faces an antitrust lawsuit from the US Department of Justice starting today.
The case will focus on allegations that Apple is hindering competition and violating antitrust laws by restricting access to iPhone software and hardware features.
Today, we reported that companies like Meta, Microsoft, and X have challenged Apple’s App Store procedures, so it’s no surprise that Apple is now facing such a lawsuit.

According to Bloomberg’s report, the case will focus on Apple’s monopolistic power over the App Store and how it harms competitors and consumers. It is argued that the App Store’s practices, such as charging high commissions to app developers and blocking alternative app stores, hinder competition and lead to higher prices and less choice for consumers.
This is the first major case against Apple in the European Union since the Digital Markets Act came into force. The EU had forced Apple to open the iPhone to alternative app markets and payment systems. It remains unclear whether the US will demand similar changes.
The case can also be interpreted as an indication of increasing regulatory pressure against tech giants in the US. In recent years, Google, Amazon, and Facebook have faced similar antitrust lawsuits.
It is not yet clear how Apple will respond to this lawsuit and the outcome of the case.
