Google Home just made managing your home security a whole lot easier!
They’ve finally brought all those handy Nest Cam features over to the Google Home website, as they have explained in a blog post.
This long-awaited update empowers users to monitor their homes from any device with a web browser, providing an extra layer of convenience and control, particularly for those who spend a significant amount of time working on desktops or laptops.
Previously, the Google Home web experience was primarily focused on viewing live camera feeds, leaving users who wanted to revisit past events or manage recorded footage tethered to their mobile devices.
With this update, Google is bringing the full power of Nest Cams to the web, allowing users to seamlessly integrate their camera management into their everyday browsing routines.
What’s changed?
Previously, the Google Home web experience was primarily focused on viewing live camera feeds.
However, the recent update brings several key Nest Cam features directly to your web browser, significantly expanding the platform’s capabilities.
Here’s what you can now do within Google Home for web:
- Access camera history: View recorded footage from your Nest cameras, allowing you to revisit important moments or investigate past events
- Download custom clips: Easily create and download specific video footage from your camera history for sharing or storing locally
- Picture-in-picture support: Continue browsing other areas of Google Home or other websites while maintaining a live camera view in a smaller window
- Garage door detection (Nest Aware Preview): If you have a compatible wired Nest Cam and Nest Aware subscription, receive alerts when your garage door has been left open
How to access enhanced Nest Cam features in Google Home for web
- Visit the Google’s Home website
- Use the same Google account that’s connected to your Google Home app and Nest devices
- Your Nest cameras should automatically appear, and you’ll be able to access the new functionalities described above
Please keep in mind that some features, like 24/7 video history, require a Nest Aware subscription and the update is rolling out gradually, so you might not see all the features immediately.
As Google Home’s capabilities continue to expand, we can expect even tighter integration between Nest devices and other Google products, resulting in a more intuitive and powerful way to control our homes.
