Few people stand out as significantly in the world of mental health as Sourav Sengupta. Sengupta, the founder and CEO of Small Joys, has had a fascinating and inspiring professional journey toward entrepreneurship. Only with his unique blend of skills and talents is Small Joys able to thrive in the northeast US.
Career evolution
Even from a young age, Sengupta showed a passion for problem-solving. Always an intellect, he followed his heart and pursued higher education at several institutions across the world. His final degree, a Master of Science in Financial Risk Management, was earned from the University of Connecticut. The knowledge that came with this degree laid a strong foundation for all of his future roles.
He wasn’t always in the startup business, though. His first role was as an analyst at Deloitte, where he focused on Actuarial Loss reserving. He then went on to take impressive roles at organizations like CRISIL Limited, Flagstone Reinsurance Holdings Ltd., and AIG.
Though he made an impact in each and every role he was placed in, he made the most impact during his time as Senior Associate at KPMG and Senior Expert in Capital Analytics at AIG. These roles made him a formidable force in the industry.
In every role he held, he showed exceptional skills in risk management and strategic planning – skills that he later used to effectively start Small Joys.
The inception of small joys
The foundation of Small Joys in 2020 was a turning point in Sengupta’s career. Inspired by his personal needs after the birth of his child, he wanted to use his skills to make mental health more accessible for children and adolescents. Though it was certainly a change of pace, Sengupta’s leadership was a massive asset to the creation of the company. Without his impressive ability to lead teams and drive innovation, Small Joys would likely not have had the major success it did upon its first launch.
Much of Sengupta’s inspiration comes from pioneers in risk management and mental health advocacy. His commitment to societal welfare is backed by his belief in the transformative power of mental health care, which Small Joys offers free of cost. His strong understanding in risk-reward tradeoffs is easily transferred to the mental health field, showing that it is possible to make healthcare solutions more accessible and effective.
He also finds inspiration from other entrepreneurs who use their skills to help others. Positive societal impact is a huge deal to Sengputa, and his work in the field only continues to prove that to others.
Beyond risk-reward tradeoffs, Sengupta also has expertise in analyzing complex data and trends. These skills have helped him to analyze current trends in the mental health field, particularly for minors in the northeast US. This has helped him develop more effective approaches to mental health care by directly targeting the diverse needs and desires of families.
Contributions, impact, and the future
Small Joys has already had a huge impact on countless children and adolescents. The company’s focus is to provide psychological support to these individuals, something that is particularly needed in our stress-laden world.
Sengupta joins forces with a talented team of Small Joys. They are on a mission to create a platform that could take care of various mental health problems and efficiently prevent them. Sengupta has also a great ten-year vision for the company. Thanks to the power of the latest tech and their extensive expertise, Sengupta believes Small Joys will definitely transform the whole mental health industry.
On the other hand, Sengupta’s story is nothing without his commitment to making the world a better place. In fact, this is his primary goal that comes from his heart. It can be clear from his efforts aiming at benefiting others. Transitioning from a risk analyst to the CEO of a mental health initiative shows his huge dedication to helping others.
Sengupta keeps making steps forward in enhancing mental health care. His inspiring story remains a source of motivation for many innovators out there.
