Four months before WWDC 2024, the list of iOS 18 compatible devices has been announced. If you’re a hardcore iPhone user, it’s time to find out which devices will support iOS 18. Let’s get started!
A reliable leak source has revealed the devices that will be supported in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. Here are all the details…

Models that will not receive iOS 18 and iPadOS 18
iPhone models:
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone SE (1st generation)
iPad models:
- iPad Air 2
- iPad mini 4
- iPad Pro (10.5-inch, 1st generation)
- iPad Pro (12.9-inch, 2nd generation)
If this leak is true, support for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models released in 2015, the first-generation iPhone SE released in 2016, and the iPad Air 2 released in 2014 will end.
The iPad mini 4 from 2015 and the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro from 2017 will also lose support.
Apple has not yet confirmed the accuracy of the leak. However, given that the user who made the leak has shared accurate information in the past, there is a high probability that the leak is true.
If this leak is true, it will mark an important milestone for iOS and iPad. In recent years, Apple has been rolling out software updates for older devices for longer periods of time. However, this leak could indicate that Apple has gradually reduced support for older devices.
Will iPad 6 get iOS 18?
The iPad 6 (6th generation) is unlikely to receive the iOS 18 (or, more accurately, iPadOS 18) update. Apple usually provides major software updates for its devices for about 5-6 years, and iPad 6 was released in 2018. It had already received iPadOS 17, so it reached the usual support window.
On the other hand, older devices sometimes lack the processing power or memory capacity to handle the new features and demands of the latest operating systems. New versions of iPadOS often offer features that rely on specific hardware components found in new iPad models.
While iPad 6 will likely continue to receive minor security updates for some time, it will not receive major feature updates like iPadOS 18. If you want the latest iPadOS features and experiences, you must consider upgrading to a newer iPad model.
iOS 18 release date
While Apple follows a predictable pattern, there’s no officially confirmed release date for iOS 18. Here’s what we can expect:
- WWDC 2024 Announcement (June 2024): Apple usually introduces the next iOS version at their Worldwide Developers Conference. We expect them to unveil iOS 18 in June of 2024.
- Developer Beta (June 2024): A developer beta will likely be released shortly after WWDC for testing purposes.
- Public Beta (July/August 2024): A more stable public beta version will likely be available for broader testing.
- The official release (September 2024): iOS 18 is expected to launch alongside the new iPhone models officially in September 2024.
It is unknown what new features iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will offer. However, Apple is expected to put more emphasis on artificial intelligence in these updates and revamp iOS 18 to turn it into “visionOS“.
