To provide users with even more secure and private conversations, WhatsApp has rolled out its latest feature – WhatsApp Secret Code. This innovative addition to the popular messaging app allows users to set a unique password, different from their device unlock code, to protect their locked chats. The secret code provides an extra layer of security and privacy, making it harder for unauthorized individuals to access sensitive conversations.
What is WhatsApp Secret Code feature?
The new feature offers several benefits for users. Firstly, it enables them to hide the Locked Chats folder from their chat list, requiring the secret code entry in the search bar to reveal the contents. This feature is especially useful for those who share their phones with others or want to keep their chats private. Additionally, users can keep the folder visible in the chat list if preferred.
Another convenient aspect of WhatsApp Secret Code is the streamlined process for locking chats. Instead of navigating through chat settings, users can now long-press to lock a chat, making the process quicker and more straightforward.
WhatsApp has been steadily introducing security and protection features as part of its commitment to user privacy. In May, the company started rolling out its Chat Lock feature globally, allowing users to create a secured folder in their chat list protected by passwords or biometric authentication methods such as fingerprints. This feature automatically conceals locked chat details from notifications, thwarting attempts to snoop into conversations while using the phone.
“We believe this feature will be great for people who share their phones from time to time with a family member or when someone else is holding your phone when an extra-special chat arrives,”
WhatsApp has a proven track record of prioritizing user privacy and security. Seven years ago, the platform introduced end-to-end encryption, and in October 2021, it began rolling out end-to-end encrypted chat backups to iOS and Android. In December of the same year, WhatsApp expanded privacy controls by adding support for default disappearing messages to all newly initiated chats.
With over two billion users worldwide, WhatsApp remains committed to providing innovative solutions that protect users’ privacy and security. The introduction of WhatsApp Secret Code is another step towards achieving this goal, offering users even greater control over their sensitive conversations.
