In the world of social media, apps rise and fall like the ebb and flow of tides. One such app that experienced a meteoric rise only to face a dramatic fall is Threads. Launched with much fanfare, the messaging app seemed poised to revolutionize the way we connect with our inner circles. But reports have revealed a startling truth: Threads has lost over half of its users.

During its early days, Threads appeared to be on the fast track to success. In the first month after its launch, the app boasted an impressive average of 25 million daily active users, a clear sign of its appeal and potential to dominate the market. However, as time passed, the numbers began to plummet.

The exact current number of Threads users remains shrouded in uncertainty, but the fact remains undeniable – Threads has not sustained the momentum it initially had. Its journey from a soaring success to a struggling platform has left many wondering: What went wrong?

In an attempt to address the issue, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg faced the harsh reality during an internal company town hall. He acknowledged that the app’s retention rate was “not perfect,” shedding light on the root causes of Threads’ troubles. But the question lingers: What were the factors that contributed to this significant decline in usage? And how did Threads lose its grip on a user base that once held so much promise?

What is the reason for the Threads usage decline? Let’s ask Zuckerberg

According to reports, Threads has lost over half of its users since its inception. In the first month after launch, the app had an average of 25 million daily active users.  It is unclear how many users Threads currently has. However, it is clear that the app has not been as successful as its beginning. So, what is the reason?

In an internal company town hall, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged the decline in Threads usage. He said that the app’s retention was “not perfect.” Zuckerberg attributed the decline to a number of factors, including:

  • The app was not well-integrated with other Meta products, such as Facebook and Instagram.
  • The app was not marketed effectively.
  • The app did not offer enough features to keep users engaged.

The future of Threads

Despite the decline in usage, Zuckerberg remains optimistic about the future of Threads. He believes that the app has the potential to be a valuable tool for people who want to connect with their close friends in a more meaningful way. Zuckerberg said that Meta is working on ways to improve the app’s user experience.

The decline in Threads usage is a setback for Meta. However, Zuckerberg’s optimism suggests that the company is not giving up on the app just yet. Only time will tell whether Threads will be able to overcome its early challenges and become a successful product.
