Using your phone, you may play a new augmented reality game from Google and Taito to repel fictitious intruders in the actual area around you. The Google AR game Space Invaders: World Defense was created to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the original Space Invaders video game.

In the new World Defense game, Space Invaders will erupt from structures and roofs, conceal themselves behind barriers, and hover. As a result, you’ll be searching for aliens rather than Pokemon. According to a Google blog post, new Space Invaders have been spotted in and around many communities. Additionally, a special power-up can be unlocked, teams can be created, and achievements can be shared on social media by taking an augmented-reality selfie.

To play the game, you need a gadget that works with Google’s ARCore technology. Using the company’s Geospatial API, the game combines the players’ immediate surroundings, including buildings, landscapes, and other architectural elements.

What is the Google AR game Space Invaders: World Defense about?

The brand-new game is a recreation of the original Space Invaders game and is based on defense. With the launch of Space Invaders: World Defense, players from all around the world can now protect the planet Earth on both Android and iOS devices.

Speaking of the specifics, the game is powered by Google’s own ARCore and Geospatial API. It uses the gamer’s surroundings along with nearby buildings, landscapes, and other elements to design and develop engaging levels in the AR world and on the screen with 3D effects. With this, the gameplay also adapts the player’s real world, including the location, local weather, and time, said the blog post.

To be more exact, the game uses the player’s surroundings and neighboring structures, landscapes, and other features to construct and develop captivating stages in the AR world and on the screen with 3D effects.

It is powered by Google’s own ARCore and Geospatial API. According to the blog post, this allows the gameplay to adjust to the player’s actual environment, including time, location, and weather.

The blog post also highlighted how augmented reality is fusing the physical and digital worlds, transforming how people purchase, learn, play, and even interact.

“AR can be used by brands and producers to bring their content closer to consumers and let them experience the world in a whole new way,” he said in the blog post.

Space Invaders: World Defense is release date

As of the time of writing, the game should already be available on both the Apple and Google app stores. It has been made available for both Android and iOS devices and will work with “ARCore-supported devices” running iOS 16.0 or Android 11.0.

The original Pixel phone, the second-generation iPhone SE, and even the iPhone 6S are among the older smartphones and tablets that are listed as supported in Google’s ARCore documentation.

Augmented reality has been eagerly anticipated since its conception. While its full potential may not yet be realized, there have been some successful applications of augmented reality to date. One such example is Niantic’s Pokémon Go, which is still a popular smartphone game and a source of income for the company seven years after its first release.

If Space Invaders: World Defense has enough to offer to keep interest high when the novelty wears off, we’ll have to wait and see. To play the game, download it from Google Play or the App Store.
