Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, said on his Threads account during the first several hours after the app’s release: “Just passed 5 million sign ups in the first four hours.” When asked about the number a few hours later on Thursday morning (July 6), Zuckerberg said: “10 million sign ups in seven hours.” Discolisng that it had already doubled.
On July 6, at midnight UK time, the Twitter rival went online on the app store. According to Meta creator Mark Zuckerberg, over 5 million individuals joined the new app within hours after its launch. The text-based discussion software is released at a time when Elon Musk’s Twitter is under fire for restricting how many tweets users may view in a day.
iOS customers who had been made aware of Threads’ existence via a flashy Instagram cross-promotion were allowed to “preorder” it. Since Threads and Instagram are closely related, Instagram profiles now show a Threads user number, making the counting clear and real-time.
When Threads went live on Wednesday afternoon, those who had opted into the pre-launch received a push notification and could instantly start Meta’s newest app. “I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it. Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully, we will,” said Mark Zuckerberg.
Within seven hours of its introduction, Threads reached the milestone of 10 million signups, according to Zuckerberg. Four hours after Threads was formally published by Meta, he previously claimed that 5 million users had signed up. The story’s headline has been changed to reflect the recent achievement.
Instagram users will easily create their Threads accounts
To get started, users of the new app may sign in with their Instagram account. Just like on the picture-sharing website, users can follow and interact with friends and influencers who share their interests. On the new app, users can regulate who mentions them and who may reply to them. They can also filter out responses to threads that include certain terms and unfollow, ban, restrict, and report other people.
The new app will immediately prohibit any profiles a user has blocked on Instagram, and it will uphold Instagram’s safety policies.
In the first two hours after becoming live in the App Store, the application has over 2 million signups and is still growing. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced the accomplishment on his Threads account. Shakira, a pop icon, Gordon Ramsay, and Mark Hoyle, a YouTuber known as LadBaby, have already signed up and announced their existence on the app.

Both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store offer the Threads app. Users may choose to follow the same profiles they follow on Instagram after installing the app, which requires an Instagram account to log in.
Threads is still in its early stages. Although the team has promised some fediverse-friendly integration that goes against Meta’s customary walled-garden-stuffed-with-ads attitude, it is yet unclear if Threads will provide users more control over the material they view.
