Twitter has capped the number of tweets users may read every day for the time being. Elon Musk, the founder of the social networking site, claims that the restrictions are intended to stop data harvesting and deter system manipulation.
Evidently, Musk thinks that this action would stop the circulation of false information and the swaying of public opinion on the microblogging platform. The restrictions depend on the kind of your account. The 52-year-old business tycoon pointed out in a tweet that verified accounts may view 6,000 posts each day.
You can read 600 posts each day on Twitter if your account has not been verified. New unverified accounts, meanwhile, are only able to see 300 tweets each day. It’s important to know that when you view a tweet that shows on your timeline, in your notifications, or in a search result, the system records it as having been read.
Reactions to the tweet read limitations are inconsistent
A BBC article claims that Musk first established harsher guidelines but soon modified them. As might be expected, there have been a variety of responses to the constraints, with some users asserting that they will assist preserve the integrity of the site.
To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits:
– Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day
– Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day
– New unverified accounts to 300/day— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 1, 2023
The restrictions, according to some users, are excessively onerous and will make it more difficult to follow the news and current events. On the other side, Musk claims that the action was required.
The head of Twitter said the website was “getting data pillaged so much that it was degrading service for normal users.” In any case, the additional restrictions will probably alter the user experience as a whole. Users that follow many accounts, for instance, may find it difficult to keep up with the most recent tweets.
Temporary emergency measure. We were getting data pillaged so much that it was degrading service for normal users!

In particular, the restrictions will make it more difficult to find fresh material. Users are also less likely to see tweets from accounts they don’t currently follow when they are limited in how many tweets they may read each day. The new regulation will thus restrict the kind of material available to users.
Impact on the Twitter community as a whole
Since they won’t be able to keep up with the most recent tweets, users are less inclined to utilize Twitter. GizChina employees think there may be a decrease in the number of Twitter users as a consequence. In addition, Twitter has come under fire for not giving its staff incentives. Twitter is making every attempt to keep its users, however.
Accordingly, the network is getting ready to compensate certified content providers for the advertisements they include in their responses. However, it’s possible that the restrictions may make it more difficult for Twitter to draw in new users. Musk advised the Twitterverse to put down their phones and spend time with their loved ones a day after announcing the tweet limit changes.

After hitting their daily limit due to the limitation, users will be shut off of the site for the remainder of the day. Shortly after the announcement, the phrase “Twitter down” became popular on the social networking site. Some people complained that they couldn’t get on the website. According to Downdetector, there were once close to 7,500 Twitter outages recorded.
Musk’s most recent tweet, which urged users to take a break from Twitter and spend time with their loved ones, sparked a meme frenzy in the comments. Numerous individuals expressed a desire to examine “just one more tweet.”
Whatever you've done is hurting genuine users and is having a negative knock-on effect to verified users.
My followers can't like my tweets because they've hit a limit of liking.
See how mad that is?
You've actually stopped folk being able to express their positive feelings.— Hedgehog Cabin (@HedgehogCabin) July 1, 2023
Additionally, several users emphasized that the new regulation had an impact on companies looking to advertise on Twitter since they would be unable to connect with users. To put that into perspective, a person who follows 10,000 accounts can only access and read 60 tweets each day from each account. As a result, the user won’t be able to keep up with the most recent tweets from every account they follow.
This is the most ridiculous idea I’ve ever seen on here. It’s destroying Twitter.
