Discord has exciting news for its users, the Downloadables.
In order to provide more opportunities for creators to earn money within their communities, Discord plans to launch a feature called “Downloadables”.
These Downloadables will allow creators to sell digital products, such as recipe ebooks, gaming guides, or digital wallpapers, through one-time purchases.
The company, led by Derek Yang, expressed its intention to start experimenting with this feature in the upcoming months, as mentioned in a blog post on Tuesday.
Downloadables and new server subscription tiers
Discord understands the significance of empowering creators to generate revenue from their work. To simplify the subscription process and provide more options for creators, the company is introducing tier templates.
These templates assist creators in determining the types of subscriptions they can offer to their communities.
Discord’s new subscription tiers are as follows:
- Supporter ($3.99) – Get started quickly with a basic offering and a low price point. Generate a little extra money to put back into making your community even better by offering exclusive emotes and subscriber-only channels
- Supporter + ($4.99) – An entry-level tier, easy to offer for a wide range of creators (mostly leverages built-in Discord features) and a low price point for subscribers
- Super Supporter ($9.99) – An upper-level tier, for all types of creators offering a mix of built-in Discord features and custom perks and benefits
- Early Access Pass ($7.99) – For content creators interested in offering early access, content exclusives, or behind-the-scenes footage for their supporters who want more content. Pair this with a Media channel to go super-powered
Discord also emphasizes the value of sustainable monetization over quick financial gains. The introduction of tier templates aims to support creators’ decisions about their subscription offerings and fostering long-term community engagement.
Stay in touch with your followers through media channels
In addition to the Downloadables and Server Shop, which you may sign-up for using the link here, features, Discord is introducing a new channel type called Media Channels.
Currently, in beta testing, Media Channels are specifically designed for sharing videos, photos, and files.
They offer communities a convenient way to segregate visual content from text-based conversations, enabling a more organized and focused sharing experience.
As of now, Media Channels are being rolled out to all Community servers with Server Subscriptions enabled, providing creators with an exciting opportunity to explore new avenues for interaction and content sharing.
Building a stronger community on Discord
With these new features and updates, Discord aims to solidify its position as a preferred platform for community building. In the midst of changes happening on other social media platforms such as Twitter and Reddit, individuals are seeking fresh environments to connect with like-minded people, especially after the Reddit blackout protests.
The introduction of Downloadables, enhanced server subscriptions with tier templates, and the beta release of Media Channels may prove to be compelling incentives for users looking to join or expand their presence on Discord.
By providing creators with more opportunities to monetize their content and offering users engaging and interactive features, Discord continues to evolve as a dynamic and vibrant community platform.
