The highly anticipated Unreal Engine for Fortnite (UEFN), Known as Creative 2.0 among the Fortnite community, has finally been released on March 22, 2023, and it promises to revolutionize the Creative mode experience for both players and developers. UEFN is an integration of Epic Games’ creation app with Unreal Engine 5.1.
Although UEFN is exclusively available to PC users, Fortnite players on various supported devices can still join in on Creative 2.0 by exploring and collaborating on islands made by artists. The UEFN public beta was launched on the same day as Epic Games’ State of Unreal session at GDC 2023, where some exciting new features of the Sandbox Creative mode were demonstrated.
Among these features are the visual geometry enhancements of Nanite and Lumen, both of which are supported in Unreal Engine 5.1, making gameplay more realistic than ever before. Additionally, all assets dating back to 2017 have been made available to island creators in UEFN.
Epic Games has also made available three games that were created using UEFN and distributed as Creative islands. These games showcase the exciting possibilities of the new integration and are accessible via the Discover page in-game.
To fully take advantage of UEFN, developers can read the full blog post on getting started with the app on dev.epicgames.com. The blog provides a comprehensive guide on using the existing features of the app as well as the newly introduced Verse programming language to create interactive narratives in Creative 2.0.
How to get Fortnite Creative 2.0?
The latest Fortnite update, which includes Fortnite Creative 2.0, is available to download for free from the Epic Games Launcher. However, since the tool is still in beta, there may be some bugs that developers might encounter.
Here is how to get Fortnite Creative 2.0:
- Open the Epic Games Launcher
- Search for “Unreal Editor for Fortnite“
- Click on the “Get” button on the right side
- Confirm the download by clicking on the “Place Transaction” button
If you can’t access the launcher, you may download Unreal Engine for Fortnite from the Epic Games website, but make sure to log in with your main account before doing so.
While Creative 2.0 is only available on PC for now, console and mobile players will need to update their clients to play on new maps. Epic Games released the latest update on March 20, which is required for the UEFN integration.
Due to the complexity of the Unreal Editor, it’s unlikely that Epic will deploy it on consoles, as it includes advanced functions like coding that a game controller cannot provide. However, console players can still participate in the creation of maps through live collaboration.
