A picture of the Amazon snake cats, so-called “Serpens Catus,” a feline with neon-yellow stripes that resemble snake scales and has been dubbed the “rarest species of feline on Earth,” went popular on social media on Tuesday.
The rarest species of feline on Earth is the Serpens catus. These Creatures are relatively understudied because they are found in remote areas of the Amazon rainforest, a Twitter user claimed. “The snake cat was only captured in photographs for the first time in 2020. It weighs 4 stone (56 pounds) in total.

How did the Amazon snake cats go viral?
Several commenters noticed a now-deleted “Serpens Cattus” Reddit post and identified the cat as being fake fur. “Clear fake One reviewer wrote,” No known gene can create natural hair or fur of such (navy and bright yellow) colors.
Another said, “Very rough attempt at a false Roman name. “A little Google search on species naming would have hidden this much better.”
The Post has contacted zoology specialists to confirm the picture’s veracity. The reptile boiga dendrophila, often known as the “gold-ringed cat snake,” is strongly resembled by the color and pattern in the photograph.
The Smithsonian’s National Zoo & Conservation Biology Center claims that the snake can be located in the same regions as the alleged locations of the Amazon snake cats.
A user on TikTok stated that the so-called serpent cat was a species that resided in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, French Guiana, and Suriname.
One commenter joked that “He’s in the next Fantastic Beasts,” alluding to the “Harry Potter” spin-off series.
Honestly, we wouldn’t be very surprised if the whole viral was a promotion for the release of Midjourney V5. There’s not much other information regarding the exact species of the Amazon snake cats and the originality of the picture, but many social media users express their total belief in the fakeness of the picture.
