Twitch AI Seinfeld banned news brought a lot on social media after the decision made by the popular broadcasting platform. Welcome to our article on the reasons for Twitch AI Seinfeld banned and the drama behind it.

“Nothing, Forever” is a never-ending AI-generated show that has been streaming on Twitch since mid-December. The show features four characters, Larry, Fred, Yvonne, and Kakler, who resemble characters from the hit show “Seinfeld” in a 1990s computer game. The dialogue is created by OpenAI’s GPT-3 and the speech technology is provided by another company. The show is held together by a combination of OpenAI’s GPT-3 and Mismatch Media’s proprietary generative algorithms referred to as the “director”.

The AI-powered version of Seinfeld, called “Nothing Forever,” has been banned from Twitch for 14 days after the AI version of Jerry Seinfeld, known as Larry Feinberg, made transphobic statements during a stand-up bit. The AI show is created by mimicking traditional Seinfeld episodes and has been watched by tens of thousands of people. The show’s AI is trained on classic sitcom episodes and various AI tools, and starts with a stand-up routine from Larry before moving to his apartment.

Why did Twitch AI Seinfeld banned?

The ban came after the AI made a series of transphobic and homophobic remarks during a stand-up set on Sunday night. Twitch did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the joke was the reason for the ban, but it happened shortly before the channel was banned and users in the project’s Discord have pointed to this joke as the reason for the ban. The Twitch page for the show now displays a message saying it’s temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.

In the project’s Discord, show staff blamed the event on having to switch the AI model, which caused “errant behaviors.” The staff member wrote that they had to switch from OpenAI’s GPT-3 Davinci model to the less sophisticated model Curie when Davinci started failing, which resulted in the inappropriate text being generated. The staff member also stated that OpenAI’s content moderation tools had worked for the Davinci model but were not successful with Curie. The root cause of the issue with the Davinci model has now been identified and Curie will not be used as a fallback in the future.

AI models struggle to understand human values

The Twitch AI Seinfeld banned incident is emblematic of the challenges faced by most AI. When AI is trained on hateful or biased material, the outputs can often be hateful or biased. This is why AI safety is an important field that develops tools to mitigate such biases. Many AI tools are moderated by underpaid workers in the developing world. The staff of Nothing Forever has made most of its Discord read-only, and on a thread where users are still allowed to post, many users are using Midjourney AI to generate images of Jerry Seinfeld holding the trans pride flag.

Twitch AI Seinfeld banned incident is one of many problems with AI’s understanding of human values

Twitch AI Seinfeld banned incident highlights the importance of responsible AI development and the need to mitigate biases in AI models. It’s essential to monitor and control the output of AI to prevent it from spreading hate and discrimination. The Nothing Forever staff has taken the right step by appealing the ban and working to ensure that nothing like this happens again in the future. The precision of AI technologies is still controversial, such as the fact that Lensa AI has also stolen the works of artists many times and generated nude photos without users’ consent. We hope that in 2023, AI technologies will be able to meet us in a more humanized way.
