New DC Universe movies
Let’s review the DC Universe movies revealed by James Gunn one by one!
Superman: Legacy
The only project with a confirmed release date, “Superman: Legacy,” is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Penned by the renowned James Gunn, the film will delve into the story of Kal-El as he navigates the complexities of balancing his extraterrestrial heritage with his human upbringing. Although reminiscent of Zack Snyder’s 2013 release, “Man of Steel,” there is a notable departure from the cast, with Henry Cavill stepping away from his role as the iconic superhero. This announcement has generated significant buzz, as fans eagerly await Gunn’s choice for the lead in this highly anticipated reboot.
The Authority
The origins of this superhero team can be traced back to a comic book series released by DC’s WildStorm imprint in 1999. “The Authority” features a distinctive lineup of seven heroes, each with their own unique and high-concept superpowers. For example, one member, Jack Hawksmoor, has a psychic bond with cities, drawing his strength from them. This will mark the debut of the WildStorm universe within the expansive DC Universe, offering fans a fresh and thrilling take on the comic book giant’s iconic characters.
The Brave And The Bold
“The Brave and the Bold” is a storied title in the annals of DC Comics, having been published during the silver age of comic books from 1967 to 1983. During that time, the series was renowned for its crossover stories that featured Batman and Robin alongside other characters in the DC Universe. The title was later adapted into a three-season animated series that aired on Cartoon Network from 2008 to 2011. The recent announcement by DC Studios promises to introduce a new interpretation of the iconic crime-fighting duo in a unique father-son story, drawing inspiration from Grant Morrison’s comic series, which in turn was influenced by the popular animated show.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
According to DC Studios, their upcoming project based on Tom King’s critically acclaimed comic books will offer a fresh take on the beloved character of Supergirl. This statement is not mere hyperbole, as the character has yet to receive a full-fledged theatrical treatment, with her only on-screen appearance being in the 1984 film “Supergirl,” where she was portrayed by Helen Slater and faced off against Faye Dunaway’s villainous character. This new project promises to challenge audience expectations and deliver an exciting new interpretation of the iconic hero.
Swamp Thing
It may come as a surprise to some, but the character of Swamp Thing, who first appeared in “House of Secrets #92” in 1971, has already been the subject of two feature films in the 1980s. The first of these, “Swamp Thing,” was directed by the legendary horror filmmaker, Wes Craven. The recent announcement from DC Studios is scant on details, simply stating that the upcoming project will delve into the mysterious and dark origins of the iconic character.

Lanterns
The Green Lantern Corps have maintained their position as the galaxy’s premier law enforcement agency since their inception in 1959. According to DC Studios, the highly anticipated TV event series will focus on the two characters as they delve into a mysterious and ominous case.
Paradise Lost

Gunn and Safran were recently appointed co-heads of DC Studios and will oversee the production of movies, television shows, and video games.
