Baidu, the Chinese internet search giant, is set to launch an AI chatbot service similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT in March. Baidu ChatGPT is already starting to get everyone excited.
The service will be launched as a standalone app and will eventually be integrated into Baidu’s search engine. ChatGPT uses machine learning to answer prompts in a human-like manner by analyzing large amounts of data. The chatbot can provide information like a search engine or even generate prose like a novelist.
While we can ask AI bots how to send a shuttle from a recipe to space and get a verified and concise answer within seconds, in most search engines, we waste time clicking on links trying to get the answer to the main question in our minds for minutes. This poses a big problem, especially for users who need to complete some research in a short time. That’s why, as a result of the initiatives of You.com and Open AI, many users started to search for answers to their questions from ChatGPT-like AI tools instead of using Google searches.
Why is Baidu ChatGPT such a big deal?
Although its name has not been finalized yet, the search engine we will call Baidu ChatGPT, for now, helps us to use AI technology in current internet searches. As you know, Open AI’s current research capabilities are very limited, which is why Open AI calls ChatGPT a “language model” rather than a search engine.
ChatGPT utilizes data to respond to user inquiries in a way that resembles human conversation, providing information like a search engine or creative writing. While chatbots in China concentrate on social interactions, ChatGPT excels in professional activities such as coding and writing essays. Baidu intends to add chatbot-generated results to its search engine, in addition to links, according to multiple sources.
AI technologies bring several advantages to search engines, and we believe that Baidu ChatGPT aims these in its upcoming AI-powered search engine:
- Improved accuracy and relevance of search results
- Ability to process and analyze vast amounts of data in real-time
- Natural language processing capabilities for a more user-friendly search experience
- Adaptation to user behavior and preferences for personalized search results
- Automated search result generation and optimization for higher efficiency
Google search vs AI-powered search engines
In our opinion, the most important advantage of an upcoming AI-powered search engine like Baidu ChatGPT over Google, which we have been using for years, should be personalized results. When we compare ChatGPT with Google, we clearly see that ChatGPT can generate results that are tailored to individual users, taking into account their past search history and other relevant data. Especially the fact that our lack of search is covered by an AI bot is a positive factor that has a huge impact on both our daily and business lives.
Apart from that, AI technologies have the ability to create original content, although it is a matter of discussion. What we see in our Google searches is that if we are not reading a scientific article, almost every news and content is like a copy of each other. On ChatGPT’s side, the AI bot also generates original content such as articles or even prose, which can be useful in a variety of contexts.
Google is already alarmed
As a consequence of OpenAI’s launch of ChatGPT, the management of Google has declared a “code red” emergency about the future of their search engine. The arrival of You.com and ChatGPT itself is causing concern for Google employees. The CEO of Google and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, has held discussions about Google’s AI strategy and instructed various departments to focus on countering ChatGPT and other AI applications that pose a threat to Google’s search engine business.
Baidu has the second-largest search engine in the world and held a 76.05% market share in China’s search engine market. Therefore, Baidu ChatGPT is more than a simple initiative. The AI search engine, which is financially powered by a market like China, definitely has the potential to improve itself. Although the release date of Baidu ChatGPT is just a rumor, when we consider the Chinese technology giant’s investment and research in AI and self-driving cars, it does not seem far from reality.
