The China-based tech giant just announced the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro, its newest top-of-the-line phones and we are here to discuss their specs, prices and release dates. Both phones use Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is made using the 4nm process at TSMC. Even more important, the cameras on these two devices have been greatly improved, and they have a fresh style. They are only being sold in China right now, but we expect that will change soon.
Xiaomi 13 Pro: Specs
The display of the Xiaomi 13 Pro has remained essentially unchanged. The Xiaomi 12 Pro has a 6.73-inch display, and so do we, with nearly identical specifications. These include a configurable 120Hz refresh rate, 1440 x 3200px resolution, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, and 1920Hz DC dimming in opposition to strong PWM. The display also has an ambient color temperature sensor that enables real-time color temperature adjustment.
The main improvement in the new 13 Pro model is the increased brightness of the display. It can reach a maximum of 1,200 nits when illuminating the entire screen, and can reach a peak brightness of 1,900 nits during HDR video playback. The device is also equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, LPDDR5X memory, and next-generation UFS 4.0 storage.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro features a triple 50MP camera setup on the back, with significant improvements. The camera includes the 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor with 1.6µm pixels, which was previously used in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, and is now paired with a Leica lens with an f/1.9 aperture and Hyper OIS.
The telephoto camera also receives an improvement. It’s 50MP again, but with a 3x zoom range and a Leica Floating Lens element, but with a somewhat lower f/2.0 aperture. Interestingly, its minimum focusing distance is only 10 centimeters.
The ultrawide lens is the same old 50MP, f/2.2, 14mm unit with macro capability, thus AF is also available.
The battery capacity increases to 4,820 mAh and is combined with Xiaomi’s Surge G1 chip, which enables safe 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. There is also the standard 10W wireless reverse charging. There is nothing unique here.
Other features include Dolby Atmos-tuned dual speakers with Dolby’s new head tracking capability, an infrared blaster, and IP68 dust and water resistance, which is a new addition to Xiaomi’s mainstream flagship series.
The device’s ceramic back is available in four colors: white, black, green, and a type of light blue leather finish that is not ceramic. The camera island is now roughly a square with rounded sides.
Xiaomi 13: Specs
The Xiaomi 13’s display has been slightly enlarged and now measures 6.36 inches diagonally. It has similar specifications as before, including a 1080 x 2400px resolution, 120Hz refresh rate (no granular control is available as it is not LTPO), and support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG. The display is also equipped with an ambient color temperature sensor. However, the OLED panel has the same maximum and peak brightness as the 13 Pro model – 1,200 and 1,900 nits, respectively.
The camera setup on the back of the Xiaomi 13 also includes Leica branding. The main camera has a 50 MP, f/1.8, 23mm, 1/1.56″, 1.0µm sensor with Hyper OIS. A notable improvement is the inclusion of a telephoto camera, which was lacking on the Xiaomi 12 model. The telephoto camera is a 10MP OIS-aided camera with a Leica lens, f/2.0 aperture, and native 3x zoom. The ultrawide camera has been upgraded to 12MP with an f/2.2 aperture, but it is likely without autofocus support.
The battery configuration is also identical, with a 4,500 mAh cell capable of 67W wired fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.
Additional features of the Xiaomi 13 include Dolby Atmos dual speakers with Dolby Head Tracking, an IR blaster, and IP68 certification against dust and water.
The standard version, unlike the Pro, has standard glass on its back and is available in Black, Light Green, Light Blue, Gray, and White. Additional colorful colors, such as Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue, are also available, although only the Light Blue variation is constructed of leather, just like the Pre. And despite the fact that the back design of the camera island is identical to the 13 Pro, the standard 13 is distinguished by its glossy, iPhone-like side frame.
