After the new Netflix became a trend, everyone started to ask, “Who is the monster in Wednesday?” Well, we’ll tell you but read-only if you don’t care about spoilers.
Wednesday, Netflix’s latest series based on the eldest Addams Family member, hinges on a basic mystery: What is murdering the pupils at Nevermore Academy? Wednesday (played by rising horror actress Jenna Ortega) is on the case, aided by Thing, despite natural and supernatural forces conspiring to hinder them from uncovering the truth. She discovers the monster’s identity and saves the school thanks to her visions and some traditional snooping.
Wednesday discovers the creature is called Hyde when studying it in Episode 7 (during a visit from her frightening yet adorable Uncle Fester). Yes, similar to Jekyll and Hyde. According to Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen), a Hyde is a person who is driven to become a monster by hypnosis or narcotics. However, once taught, they may turn at will. However, because Hyde maybe anybody, Wednesday’s task becomes more difficult. Not to mention that someone must bring out a Hyde… So there is an accomplice to the murders.
But if you’re really curious, we can tell you…
Who is the monster in Wednesday?
Tyler is the monster (Hunter Doohan). After kissing Tyler, Wednesday has a bloody vision of him as Hyde standing over her therapist, Dr. Kinbott (Riki Lindhome). She also discovers that his mother was a student at Nevermore and a Hyde.
To make matters worse, Tyler confesses his misdeeds to Wednesday after she unjustly accuses Xavier. It isn’t until she uncovers his collaborator, the true Laurel Gates of Jericho, that she is able to piece together the puzzle and eventually reveal the town’s murders.
Although she initially thought it was Dr. Kinbott who induced Tyler’s Hyde through hypnosis, Wednesday soon realizes the true culprit is Miss Thornhill (played by Christina Ricci, the original Wednesday Addams). The botany teacher used chemicals to induce Tyler’s Hyde state, allowing him to kill outcasts and anyone who came too close to discovering what Thornhill was up to.
Thornill’s ultimate ambition was to resuscitate her late ancestor, Jericho’s founder, Joseph Crackstone. Joseph despised misfits and died trying to eradicate them from the world. Who is his major foe? Wednesday’s ancestor is none other than Goody Addams.
Wednesday defeats Laurel/Thornhill and captures Tyler with the help of her friends. But, in one of the season finale’s final scenes, it appears that we may not have seen the last of Tyler…
Will Tyler be back for Wednesday Season 2?
Tyler is tied up in shackles and carried away from Jericho in the conclusion. Of course, he won’t go quietly, and we watch him transform back into a Hyde to battle his captors. If Tyler does manage to flee, he may return in the future to exact his revenge.
Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar announced Tyler’s comeback in an interview with Variety. “Yeah. Absolutely. He’s out there somewhere, “Gough explains. “That’s what we wanted to convey.”
Tyler’s return, however, is not guaranteed until Season 2 is renewed.
Will there be a season 2 of Wednesday?
For now, we don’t know! Though Wednesday only just premiered, so unless there’s a shocking amount of Netflix subscribers who watch the show within its initial two weeks, Netflix may stay quiet on Wednesday’s future for the time being.
But considering Netflix is the junk food equivalent of cheap, CHEAP entertainment, it’s safe to say there will be. Netflix loves churning out the trash.
If the show has an enormous Thanksgiving weekend debut, we could hear about a Season 2 relatively quickly. If it’s more up in the air, it may take months—like with The Sandman, which recently got a Season 2 order. And there’s also the possibility that Netflix doesn’t give Wednesday and Nevermore Academy another season. Perhaps Tim Burton would realize his mistake and spend his valuable time watching paint dry rather than making another season. God only knows…
We hope we have answered your “Who is the monster in Wednesday” question. If you are also sick of rehashes and remakes, here’s how you can sign out of your Netflix account.
