The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which is held each year by the American department store, is holding a Macys NFT parade and has officially entered the metaverse. The virtual Parade will feature five galleries of popular NFT collections, with the winner’s design becoming a real-life Parade balloon in the 2023 Parade. The OnCyber metaverse powers the experience, which is available without the need for a crypto wallet.
Macys NFT parade will be held in Metaverse
This is not the company’s first foray into web3, having previously published ten unique NFTs and 9500 parade-themed items in 2021 to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the annual Parade. Bids for the one-of-a-kind artworks representing renowned balloons reached $300,000, with the revenues going to charity.
“Our genesis collection of Parade NFTs last year was so successful that we wanted to give our digital community the opportunity to select a native NFT design to be transformed into a real world Macy’s Parade balloon,” Will Coss, Executive Producer of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, stated. This year’s collection includes NFTs from Boss Beauties, Cool Cats, gmoney, SupDucks, and VeeFriends, all of whom have previous collections on OpenSea and Coinbase.
Following in the footsteps of brands such as Adidas, Macy’s collaboration with prominent NFT names aims to make the brand more desirable in the NFT market by capitalizing on its existing communities. The Parade also allows viewers to purchase a virtual gallery pass for $50, with the proceeds benefiting the charity Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Companies are getting invested in Metaverse more and more every day. Macys NFT parade is not the first time that a big company dipped their toes in web3 tech as Walmart is entering Roblox Metaverse and Fender Stratoverse brings music into the Metaverse.
